the shoreline tidepools and rock formations on fabric which is collaged onto canvas. I then add clay to build up the collage into a three dimensional composition. My most recent piece is a lantern incorporating photography on silk with clay. The legs are made with undulating lengths of dried kelp!”
When delving further into Gera’s online gallery, I was met with many, many pieces that had a totally different style - bright, super-colorful patterns and figurative work. I asked if these differences were a maturing of her style?
“Looking back on my Flickr site is an adventure for me. It shows the development of several processes and themes over a period of several years. Some ideas inspired me and i let them develop, others ended up being experiments that went tno further. This past year I moved away from my bright colourful pieces and figurative sculptures and focused on interpretations of the shore with a very muted palette. I have recently begun to experiment with resins and I have begun once again to let the colours seep into the pieces I’m making.”
