Summer Program Offers Cool Choices for All Ages


The Tigers’ Comerica Park isn’t the only place to find fun and excitement this summer. So are all the branches of the Detroit Public Library. In June, July and August, all 24 library branches, Teen Centers and the Main Children’s Library will be offering events and activities designed to keep kids reading and having fun through their summer vacation. Kids taking part in the Summer Reading Program can earn credits for reading, weekly prizes and a chance to be part of a Reading Program trip to the Detroit Zoo on two dates in July. The Summer Reading Program has three levels: Read-to-Me, for pre-school and kindergarten students, in which participants earn credits by listening to books read by parents, teachers and librarians. Make a Splash @ Your Library, for Grades 1-7, in which students will read and participate in book discussions and other activities for credit. Make Waves @ Your Library, for Grades 8-12, in which teenagers will get to take part in a variety of fun summer activities to build reading, listening and teamwork skills.
