Washington unwinds in the summer and so should you. Take time out of your workday for a mix of rock-and-roll, reggae, jazz and R&B. Soul and R&B veterans the O’Jays kick it off June 9. The complete schedule isn’t out yet, but past years have featured Cha- ka Khan, Chuck Brown and Cold Hard Cash, a Johnny Cash cover

band. So get outside and away from your desk. It’s summertime!

Fort Dupont summer concert series

What defines summer more than a lawn chair, bug repellent and some good music? This con- cert series in the park features jazz, R&B and soul. Bring a pic- nic and chill out with friends and family. Alcohol is not allowed.

There are no scheduled rain dates. Picnic areas are available in the park around the amphitheater. Strathmore concert series

Nothing says summertime like lounging on a blanket in the grass, a glass of red wine in hand, listening to music as the evening cools. From ukulele to kids mu- sic, these evening concerts at the gazebo in front of the mansion have a sophisticated feel. Food, including barbecue ribs and pulled pork sandwiches, and al- cohol are for sale (no alcohol can be brought in). A bonus: Get there at 5:30 p.m. to check out a mini festival featuring mimes, clowns and jugglers.

Bring your lawn chair and relax, looking out over the Potomac River to Virginia as the sun sets, or just meander around the harbor shops and res- taurants, and take in the music.
