Using the online app development company,
AppMakr.com, Chris Harris, canon for congregational development, spearheaded the development of the cathedral app. He’s excited about how it allows parishioners to stay connected with the click of a button.
“What’s great about the app is I can check the calendar, read the latest blogs and catch last week’s sermon – all in a single touch!” said Harris.
“You don’t have to be a mega-church to have an app. AppMakr created the engine; all you need to do is supply content. If you’re already podcasting your sermons, have a blog and an online calendar, then you already have the content. The app simply pulls together your content in a single, easy- to-access source.”
With the growing popularity of smart phones among young adults, professionals and the tech-savvy, an app makes your church relevant, plugged in and willing to go where everyone else already is. And it’s just downright handy!

Staying Connected: St.
Paul’s Cathedral released its fi rst smart phone app in March. By April, newcomers were already reporting the app led them to church. On average 600 people read the cathedral blog every month; 2,000 per month download forums and sermons; and 2-3 times more people view sermons and forums online than in person. People all over the world are connected to the cathedral via the app and web site; readers and viewers hail from Australia, the UK, Israel, India and all parts of the U.S.

Who will you remember?
I

was looking through the newspaper last weekend and
eventually worked my way to the obituaries. Getting older, I like to see if there’s anyone I know. I noticed how many people encourage memorial gifts to friends and family in lieu of
I wondered how many people remembered their church, either through a memorial gift in lieu of
of a bequest.
Throughout the Episcopal Church, 85% of all gifts left to the church are given by way of a simple bequest in a will. A bequest can be made for a
of one’s estate. Many like to remember a church that has meant so much to them during
their lifetime. As a continuation of good stewardship, you might endow your pledge. Perhaps this
lifelong goal of achieving the ten percent tithe.
At a time when the church is so important to our families and loved ones, a memorial gift to the church often makes sense. As a friend of mine said, “This is your last chance to say what was important in your life.”
A gift to the church is one of the easiest to make. Consider including your church or other Episcopal institution in your estate plans. For more information, contact Canon
of the Bishop: 619-481-5451 or
