Remote Relaxation

First timer at ILTM, Remota, Chile, is as the name suggests one of the most remote experiential- properties in South America, specifically, the Chilean Patagonia.

Take a three and a half-hour flight from Chile’s

capital Santiago to Punta Arenas, and then a two hour scenic drive to Puerto Natales, the geographical and cultural centre of Chilean Patagonia. Yet the hotel is also 2 hours drive from Punta Arenas, the last city in Southern Chile, beyond which is Antarctica. Open all year round, this quirky property has 72

rooms and is ideal for those looking for a dose of modern luxury with their adventure in this largely unspoiled hikers, birders, photographers, mountain bikers and fly-fisherman’s paradise. Remota offers a range of over 40 excursions to

experience the five icons around this area of Patagonia: untouched evergreen fjords, the biggest southern ice block, vast flatlands that locals name pampas, the rugged cordillera, plenty of fossils, caves, spectacular geology and Chile’s iconic Torres del Paine National Park. This is also combined with the opportunity to visit locals and experience the life and culture of Patagonia. Family programmes are also available. Designed by eco-architect Germán del Sol, the

award-winning hacienda style of the hotel with roaring open fires make a welcome return from the outdoors, yet floor to ceiling glass mean its light and airy interior design makes the most of glorious views across the Patagonian landscape. (Reasons to understand why Remota won Chile’s National Architectural prize few years ago.) All bedrooms look out to Ultima Esperanza bay,

the Balmaceda glacier and the Paine Mountain Range. There are two meeting rooms: 1,900 and 1,470 square feet as well as a restaurant and bar. An additional complex holds an indoor heated pool, Finnish sauna and open-air Jacuzzi as well as massages available for ultimate peace and relaxation. Remota is fully committed to

sustainability. ■ For more information visit Remota, Chile at ILTM or www.remota.cl

Exhibitor Features

Stéphane Filone, CEO & Founder of Be In Beyond has been a key partner for ILTM and ALTM since their inception. In this interview he reveals his involvement in the event, shares his expertise on Cannes, and exposes the best experiences the Riviera has to offer...

Q. Stéphane, can you tell us about your company and what services you provide to exhibitors at ILTM?

A. Be In Beyond is a DMC and we mainly work with the planning, organisation and creation of meetings and events, either in the French Riviera or in Barcelona, Spain. We are, for instance, the official ground handler of the Mobile World Congress (50,000 people in Barcelona) and have recently managed the NATO summit in Strasbourg. We assist ILTM with the management of the VIP Buyer programme, from individual flights to personalised transfers from Nice, to overseeing every room selected for their accommodation in Cannes. We provide a dedicated team, and of course its 24/7 during the show with a hostess at each hotel to help our VIP’s during the event.

Q. Are you creating any new features and ideas for ILTM this year, can you tell us about them?

A. Every year is a challenge, we have to provide not only the very best quality service but also fresh and new ideas to help renew the experience of exhibitors and VIP Buyers over and over again. One of our key roles is to create the now famous ILTM Welcome Party – and this year it’s going to probably be the best yet! But we can’t spoil the surprise, so if you don't mind, we will reserve the details for the participants.

Q. Based in Cannes, you know what’s hot and what’s not. What are the latest and most essential Cannes experiences?

A. Despite of the downturn, several investments have been made in Cannes recently. Of course, the building of a new wing at the Majestic Barrière is very exciting and the rooms are impressive. Overlooking the steps leading up to the Palais Festivals, there is a brand new restaurant (the well known "Cuisine Niçoise restaurant" La Petite Maison, www.lapetitemaison-nice.com), plus some spectacular new suites, a spa and our first Prada Shop on La Croisette!

Q. And the one place to be seen?

A. If I had to choose it would be Bruno Oger on the hill of Le Cannet, less than 10 minutes drive from La Croisette. Bruno was previously from two Michelin starred La Villa des Lys. This is his new concept and it includes a brasserie, a lounge bar and a gastronomic restaurant (www.bruno-oger.com). Set to be the new place to be seen, Bruno Oger was chosen as the venue for one of the most exclusive parties of the Cannes film festival less than a week after its opening. By night Le Da Da Da for Décalé is the new hybrid club bridging cabaret, theatre and disco. It is a trendy and offbeat mini club for an intellectual crowd (www.dadaclub.com) - and it’s available for private hire and events.

Q. Some participants may want to stay on after ILTM – what are your personal recommendations for post-show relaxation?

A. The French Riviera is sleepy in December, so it’s time to discover hidden jewels like La Reserve Beaulieu (www.reservebeaulieu.com ) or the Cap Estel (www.capestel.com ). Equally it’s a good time for shopping – not crowded, with plenty of space to browse.

Q. Finally, living and working in the playground of Europe, where do you spend your leisure time and holidays?

A. I am afraid I am not very original; I spend most of my leisure time either in Saint Tropez at Pampelonne Bay – definitely one of the most beautiful in the world – and my favourite beach Les Palmiers. Although I also love Taormina in

Italy where I stay at the San Domenico ■.
