Shoe carnival exceeds expectations for quarter

Shoe Carnival reports that its net sales for the fourth quarter ended Jan. 30 rose by 8.8 % to $170.8 million, with a matching 8.8 % increase in comparable store sales. The comp increase was well above the company’s expectations, and was attributed partly to ongoing strength in the toning shoe segment.

LVMH wins a partial victory against google

Google has withstood a legal challenge by LVMH Moët Hennessy Louis Vuitton, which opposed its practice of selling search words, including brand names, to advertisers. France’s Supreme Court had referred the case to the European Court of Justice, which ruled that Google did not infringe on LVMH’s trademark rights, but in a precedent-setting decision, the court ordered Google to follow higher standards going forward. LVMH asserted that the sale of “AdWords” could send customers to illegal websites selling counterfeit goods. The European court said that Google as well as advertisers could be found liable if this happened. It also ruled that online advertisers had to get permission from a

trademark owner in order to use that trademark as a keyword search term. As a result, only sites that the company has approved of will show up in a search engine search. The case will now go back to the French court for a final ruling.

clothing, handbags, accessories and household products to their portfolio. To date the company has exported an amazing 8.25 million items. It won the Queen’s award in 1998 and 2004. In 2009 and 2010 Michael and Elizabeth both featured in the Who’s who of business elite. The Queen’s Award for Enterprise recognises continuous achievement in

international trade over a six year period. It is a very prestigious award that only around 110 companies receive a year. Ward Shoes recorded an astonishing 131% increase in overseas sales between 2004 and 2009. Which equates to £1 million. The company continues to develop and grow. It has just launched an e- bay shop to open a new market.

The Garant Group turned around to a net profit of ¤2.3 million in 2009 from a net loss of ¤4.3 million in the previous year. The 2008 figure was partly due to creditors’ claims related to the previous insolvency of the international German based buying group.
