Seventies’ homespun crafts movement Spring Summer 2011

Taking a tip from the seventies’ homespun crafts movement, Spring Summer 2011 sees a reinterpretation of the shoe that characterised the decade, identifying a need to move away from the aggressively fierce heels that have recently

dominated footwear. The very antitheses of high maintenance glamour, seventies platforms exude an unpolished, organic appeal, utilising natural fabrics and wooden details. Updated with woven straps and oversized buckles, or with light cork wedges, the Modern Seventies’ trend radiates an attainable, wholesome practicality. The aesthetic is distilled into sling-back clogs with chunky heels or oversized wedge platforms, in raw black and tan leathers. A typically seventies colour palette is applied to chunky-heeled sandals with contrasting straps, comprising of coffee bean browns, perfect tan, wild strawberry reds and dusty oranges, lifted with wheat field yellows and

apple green. Anticipating the next update, similar colours are utilised on patent heeled shoes with square toes and silver detailing, worn with knitted ribbed socks. For Spring Summer 2011 wear a brown leather

oxford, elevated with a minimal platform and finished with chunky leather laces; a tan moccasin clog hybrid incorporates both statements. For the tricky transitional period into Fall Winter 2011, accessorise with school-boy socks, rolled down or pulled up to the knee, or to categorically maximise impact, add some sparkly ankle socks. Next months’ Trends are still under wraps, but promise to deliver some fascinating news….
