ALBUM review
JAMES TEEJ
‘Evening Harvest’
A multi-instrumentalist, vocalist, DJ and producer, Canadian James Teej has more than a few strings to his bow. Which might explain why after releases for Rebirth, My Favourite Robot and Connect Four Records, Matt Edwards snapped him up to release his debut album on Rekids.
Deeper than the Mariana trench, ‘Evening Harvest’ comes correct with a collection of house tracks ranging from the slo-mo narcosis of the hauntingly beautiful ‘Left Believing’ and the early morning pads of ‘We Collide’ to the broodingly soulful ‘Greenback’, a collaboration with Dop, and
the Eastern acid vibe of ‘The Rain Awaiting’.
Only last track ‘All We Have Is This’ drops the tempo, signing off with a performance that sounds like a blissed-out Jamie Lidell and which, from the evidence here, isn’t far from the truth.
