s Milwaukeeans prepare to welcome the offi cial start of summer, we also greet the 48th annual

Lakefront Festival of Arts from June 18- 20. At the festival, 181 juried artists will exhibit their creations and welcome us into their world of paints, photos, fi bers, glass, clay, and metals – every medium for every taste, and every year a diff erent vibe. Danielle Brinkman, co-chair of this

year’s event, is most excited for the new features of the 2010 incarnation of the fes- tival. “We really looked for new opportu- nities to ‘wow’ our faithful attendees and, at the same time, attract a new audience,” she says.

“Wow” How?

Seasoned patrons will fi nd a dazzling array of art. New attendees will fi nally see what they’ve been missing. And every-

one, regardless of experience, will fi nd something to make them want to stay and enjoy the creations on display. For starters, take the price of admis-

sion. Just $12 gets you into the festival ($7 for Milwaukee Art Museum Members), but it also gets you access to the Museum, where you can stroll through the Collec- tion, galleries and view two special exhibi- tions. You’ll fi nd festival artists inside the Museum building this year (directly below the Burke Brise Soleil in stunning Wind- hover Hall) and outside in the gigantic white tents. And the food! Unlike years past, which

featured individual vendors, this year the renowned Café Calatrava will tempt

visitors with food they can’t get anywhere else. As a result of extended hours this year, attendees can enjoy the festival expe- rience until 9 p.m. on Friday and soak up more live music along the lakefront. “T ere really is something for every-

one,” says Debbie Gerke, who is also co-chairing the event. “If location drives attendance, we couldn’t be in a better spot, right on the lakefront with a great view of the city. T e downtown crowd can take advantage of being nearby and enjoy great music and great food, and the quality of art is top-notch. T ere’s a price point for everyone to bring original art into your home.”

Simply The Best

In fact, it’s the quality of the art that recently earned the Lakefront Festival of Arts an A-grade from the Art Fair Source Book, which placed the event in the top three most prominent art festivals in the
