San Diego Clergy Honored for

Worker Justice

Heralded as the “dynamic duo from St. Paul’s Cathedral,” the Very Rev. Scott Richardson and the Rev. Canon Mary Moreno Richardson were honored by San Diego’s Interfaith Committee on Worker Justice. For their work as outspoken leaders fighting for change, the Richardsons received accolades and high praise from the committee. Three tables filled with supporters from around the diocese were present to support them and to share in the honor. “This is not something I did on my own,” said Dean Richardson in his acceptance speech. “We did it together. We all deserve the

reward.” X

International Verger’s

Conference in San Diego

San Diego is known as a destination spot for conferences, but this was the first time the Verger’s Guild of the Episcopal Church took place here. St. Paul’s Cathedral hosted the event, the 21st annual conference, which drew over 100 vergers from the U. S., the U. K. and Canada. “Within your vocation you clearly carry the ordering of the worship life of the community that you serve,” said the Rt. Rev. James R. Mathes as he addressed the vergers during Evensong. The group spent four days conducting business, sharing stories and enjoying time spent together.

“Our cathedral manifested the Verger’s Guild motto: ‘Service in Worship and Worship through Service,’” said Brooks Mason, St. Paul’s Cathedral canon verger and conference chair. “According to the attendees the conference was ‘magnificent, spiritual and exuded a sense of genuine caring.’ If you can make vergers feel welcome and cared for, you’re doing pretty well.” X
