Call For Articles

Do you have an interesting story to tell about the Pictured Rocks National Lakeshore area? If so, I would like to ask you to contribute an article to the Pictured Rocks Journal.

The PIRO Journal is published twice a year; once in May and in November. We are always looking for varied and fresh content in the following areas:

Natural or cultural history Photo essays

Short stories about place Poetry Scientific articles Video based stories

Audio stories and soundscapes

Deadline for story submission for the Fall edition of the Pictured Rocks Journal is October 1, 2010. Release date for the fall edition is November 15.

The Pictured Rocks Journal is published by the New Media in National Parks project at Northern Michigan University.

Starting with the Fall, 2010 edition the PIRO Journal will be expanding its coverage to include Pictured Rocks National Lakeshore and select NPS areas in the Great Lakes region.

Financial Support

As a self-supporting publication, the PIRO Journal sells the journal for five dollars an issue. This money only partially covers the journal’s publication and development costs.

In the near future we hope to establish the ability to accept donations to help underwrite future editions of the Pictured Rocks Journal as a regional magazine.
