Hiking Essentials
Spring is here and it’s a great time to get out and go hiking. It’s never fun hiking when you’re not prepared, so here’s a list of recommended gear and clothing from our staff that will help you stay comfortable, dry, and hydrated so that you can enjoy a nice long hike:
HIKING BOOTS & SOCKS: Your
feet are your most important tool on your
hike. We recommend you receive a foot evaluation and be fitted for a pair of hiking boots or trail shoes. The right boots and socks will keep your feet comfortable and blister-free. Visit Diamond Brand’s footwear department for an evaluation and fitting from a Board Certified Pedorthist.
CLOTHING: Make sure you wear clothing made with moisture-wicking fabric;
this type of clothing will keep you dry and cool even in very warm weather.
TREKKING POLES: Trekking poles help take some of the weight off your legs so that you don’t tire quickly.
RAIN SHELL: You never know when rain may hit, so having a lightweight rain shell will keep you dry.
WATER: It’s important to stay hydrated, so bring water in a hand-held bottle, waist belt, or Camelbak.
DAYPACK: A small daypack is great for storing your rain shell, water, sunscreen, and bug spray. Most daypacks come with hook loops for your trekking poles as well.
BLACK DIAMOND TRAIL SHOCK
$109.95 |
Hit the trail with the cutting edge technology of this pole’s progressive, four-stage shock that absorbs light strikes and heavy hits without pogo-rebounding or bottoming out.
