Youth & Outdoor Recreation
In 2008, participation in outdoor recreation among youth ages 6 to 17 dropped by 6% —resulting in a combined 16.7 % drop over the last three years. Supporting outdoor activity among youth is extremely important since it will help fight other dangers such as childhood obesity and problems like ADD and ADHD, as well as improving overall health. At Diamond Brand, we’re dedicated to supporting youth outdoor activity by offering assistance to programs in our area geared at getting kids outdoors. Diamond Brand provides financial assistance and donates gear and equipment each year for the NC Arboretum’s Summer Youth Programs. We also support Muddy Sneakers, which provides hands-on outdoor learning in local schools. Other programs we support include the YMCA of Western North Carolina’s Strong Kids Campaign and summer camps. Our Community Outreach Manager, Gary Eblen, visits local public schools and summer camps to teach kids about nature and go on hikes. Diamond Brand also supports youth outdoor participation through our own programs. This June, Diamond Brand will host its 2nd
Annual Great American Backyard Campout. This
