Outlook
Fellow junior Hagi is coming off an equally solid sophomore campaign in which she finished fourth on the team with 30 points. An accurate offensive weapon, Hagi shoots 42.3% from the field for her career, fourth best in program history.
Rounding out the junior class of attackers is Ragg. The Ann Arbor, Mich. native had her coming out party in her homecoming last season in leading the Saints to a pair of victories at theWolverine Invitational and has never looked back. Her 48 assists were the second most in a season in Siena history and she will be looked upon to make an ever bigger impact this season as one of the team’s top two scoring options.
Sophomores Katie Ness and Traci Robertson provide depth to an already deep corps and should challenge the upperclassmen for not only playing time, but starts on the attack this year. A remarkably quick player, Ness has the ability to blow past defenders and finish around the goal where she possesses smart shot selection. Robertson, meanwhile, gives the Saints a different look with a left-handed shot and has excellent pool vision.
Freshmen Veronica Bone, Monica Chaviano and Kelly Salamack
are the three new freshmen faces who join the attack this season. A native of Mercer Island,Wash., Bone is a tireless worker and astute player who is always looking to make her teammates better. Chaviano, who played high school polo with McDowell in Miami has a tremendous background in the sport where she was a two-time Miami Herald All-Dade First Team selection. Finally, Salamack, who hails from Oakland, Calif., has previously been a Defensive Player of the Year and MVP and should add valuable depth to the squad.
SCHEDULE
The Saints are scheduled to play 33 games this season and participate in six tournaments as well as 10MAAC games. Coach Howe plans to challenge this young teamwith a grueling, early-season schedule which could include up to seven nationally ranked opponents that the Saints could see over the firstmonth and a half of the season.
Siena will play a total of seven home games this season, along with eight true road tilts in addition to its deep neutral site competi- tion. The Saints open the 2010 campaign with 14 games outside the Capital Region before the Siena Invite returns to Loudonville Mar. 6-7 where the Saints will host Mercyhurst, Utica and MAAC rival Iona. The Green and Gold will enjoy three more home tilts this season against Hartwick (Mar. 27) and with a home MAAC weekend against the Gaels and St. Francis (Apr. 10).
The Saints have been invited to play in the Harvard, Bucknell, Chapman, Michigan and Marist Invitationals this season and will once again make their annual
