1985

• First color issue

Elections publishes with a redesigned cover. • James Dwinell buys Campaigns

1986

Elections switches to bi-monthly publishing schedule.

• The magazine’s slogan becomes

Winning” as Campaigns

& Elections’ mission

changes from a mostly academic publication to a magazine for the campaign professional. • First international

seminar held in Buenos Aires in November 1986.

1987

• With 196 listings, “The Political Pages” launches as a special section.

1988

• The first “Rising Stars” are recognized. In the inaugural class: David Axelrod, Alex Castellanos, Rahm Emmanuel and Mike Murphy.

• Campaigns &

Elections becomes the official publication of the American Association of Political Consultants. • Seminars launch across the country and around the world: from Chicago, San Francisco, and Boston to Australia, Mexico, and Guatemala.

1989

• Campaigns &

Elections becomes the official publication of the International Association of Political Consultants.

1990

• The Capitol Steps help celebrate

Elections’ 10th anniversary. • Seminars held in what had been East Germany, the Soviet Union, Hungary, Slovakia, the Czech Republic and Poland. • With 163

consulting firms listed, the first “Campaign Scorecard” notes the year’s winners and losers.
