in Ireland, the West and North West
region offers a spectacular choice.
There are wonderful Parkland courses,
both new and old; but most people
know the area for its superb links.

ith a variety of 18-hole
and 9-hole courses to
choose from, no matter where
you stay in the West and North West Region, you
are never more than a short drive from a fi ne golf
course. Incorporating the counties of Donegal,
Sligo, Leitrim, Cavan and Monaghan, this area has
a stunning variety of scenic landscapes from the
majestic coastline of Donegal to the Lakeland
scenery of the inland counties.
But the main emphasis for the golfer in this
region is Links golf; and when you walk these courses
in the West and North West region you could be
forgiven for thinking that nature itself took up its
design sketchbook and created these great Atlantic
links courses. Courses like Ballyliffi n in Donegal,
with its two courses, the Old Course and Glasheady,
both superb tests of golfi ng skill, and set in stunning
scenery. And further down the coast there’s the
Connemara Championship Links, with its long
meandering fairways, and back nine that has been
described as without equal anywhere in the world.
But it’s not all links golf; parkland courses play
over fairways adorned with beautiful mature trees.
Castle Dargan with its four star hotel has an
exceptional parkland championship course designed
by Irish Ryder Cup star Darren Clarke. The shape of
the course fi ts the natural line of the estate offering
a great round of golf.
Others encompass natural water features and
all enjoy unspoiled views of the great North West
Region. For example Letterkenny Golf Club offers
the amateur and professional alike a tree lined
course with heart stopping views over Lough Swilly.
Its Par 3 5th Hole, with its views of the Lough and
the Inishowen Hills, is highly regarded, and a
potential hole in one!
This is a true golfi ng experience; world-class
