First ‘green’ LNG regasification vessel
delivered to GDF Suez
French-based energy firm GDF Suez has taken delivery of its first shuttle and
regasification vessel (SRV) from Samsung Heavy Industries (SHI). This vessel
represents a development in floating LNG technology for the companies involved.
G
DF Suez took delivery of its
first SRV, GDF Suez Neptune, in
December 2009. This vessel is
equipped with her own LNG regasification
system, allowing her to regasify and
discharge natural gas under high pressure
directly into a designated deepwater port,
such as the group’s Neptune LNG Deep
Water Port off the coast of Massachusetts,
USA, to be commissioned early 2010.
Jean-Marie Dauger, executive
vice-president of GDF Suez in charge of
Global Gas & LNG, said: “The GDF Suez
Neptune will reinforce the group’s fleet
and its ability to ship LNG to our markets
around the world, including markets which
do not have onshore terminals at their
disposal. This is a significant step for our
development in floating LNG and for the
strengthening of our security of supply.”
