variety spotlight: petunia
Debonair is a new collection combining beautiful fl owers painted in special
unique colors with professional seed quality. Suitable for pots, combo planters
and baskets, these premium petunias can open the door to decorator opportuni-
ties. Two colors currently make up the Debonair series: Dusty Rose and Lime
Green.
During plug production, use a well-drained medium with a pH of 5.5-6.0 and
EC of 0.75. Covering seed is not recommended. Water adequately after sowing
to completely dissolve the pellet. Stage 1 (germination) takes about four days.
Maintain soil temperature at 72-76° F. Decrease to 68-75° F at Stage 2 and 65-70° F
at Stage 3. During Stage 4, decrease to 60-65° F.
Growing on to fi nish, use a well-drained medium with a
pH of 5.5-6.2 and a medium initial nutrient charge. Use one
plant per 4- to 5-inch pot, one to three plants per 6-inch pot
and three to four plants per 10-inch basket.
Maintain temperatures at 61-75° F days and 57-65° F nights.
Keep light levels as high as possible while maintaining mod-
erate temperatures. Apply nitrate-form with low phosphorous
fertilizer at 175- to 225-ppm nitrogen every other irrigation. ‘Debonair Dusty Rose’
All Debonair varieties can fl ower successfully at 10-hour
daylengths. Dusty Rose will be slightly earlier than Lime
Green in short-day conditions. Mature plants reach 10-15
