Remi Nicole
Amy Winehouse’s best friend is
a rising star of the music scene.
I’ve just been to meet Miss Frank from
The X Factor. They haven’t got a record
deal yet so I’m trying to help by co-
writing some songs for their album!
People often describe me as ‘Amy
Winehouse’s friend’ but I think I’ve
made a good album and it shouldn’t be
overshadowed by who I hang out with.
I’d say my music style is eclectic. My
album is influenced by rockabilly, doo
wop and soulful rock. I wrote the songs,
played the guitar, keyboard and drums.
It’s produced by Mark Taylor who has
worked with Diana Ross and Kylie.
New Orleans is my favourite song
from my album. I went last year and
ended up in bar in one of the oldest
black neighbourhoods, where all the
musicians hang out. Someone was
playing Amazing Grace on the piano so
I started singing. This one guy was a
producer. He invited me to his studio to
make a song. I did it for a laugh, but it
turned out really well.
When I’m not singing, I like to chill out
in the pub. The Snooty Fox in Canonbury
does the best spit roast chicken and the
Hawley Arms in Camden is my local.
I’m not one for pretentious hangouts.
I live in jeans and Converse, I’m a real
tomboy. Sometimes at night I put on a
dress but nine out of ten times I still
wear flats. I hate not being able to do
what I want because my feet hurt!
To escape London, I get in my car
and just drive! I end up in random
places. The last place I landed up in
was a little village called Turville in
Buckinghamshire, it was gorgeous.
