Things changed up everywhere on Sunday as World ATV Motocross
racing continued with round two. Sunny skies were much more in-
viting than the gloomy weather from round one the day before. The
ground was damp from rains, but the well-groomed track offered up
a tacky grip with plenty of bite, and little need for a water truck. Con-
ditions couldn’t get much better.
Just as Chad Wienen had dominated both pro motos during round
one the day before, Josh Upperman would do the same during Sun-
day’s round two motos. The racing was tight from start to finish as
Dustin Nelson, Jeremie Warnia and Chad Wienen would all challenge
the leader at some point. During moto two, Wienen landed hard off of
a triple-jump and was forced off the course to regain control. He got
tangled up in race banners in the process, which slowed him down
as he attempted to free himself. Once rid of the banners, Wienen
battled back hard and fast to pass Nelson and Warnia, and completed
the day with second place finishes in both round two motos. Dustin
Nelson narrowly edged out Jeremie Warnia in moto two for the day’s
final podium position.
After two full rounds of racing Chad Wienen sits in first place, just
two points ahead of Josh Upperman. Jeremie Warnia is firmly in third
place, which has Can-Am leading two of the top three spots. MCR
racing’s Beau Baron and Yamaha’s Dustin Nelson round out the top
five points leaders.
It’s still too early to be making championship predictions though, as
racing will resume in California at Glen Helen for rounds three and
four January 2nd and 3rd. From there, the series will move on to Ari-
zona’s Grinding Stone Sports Park. Grinding Stone is the state’s only
natural terrain motocross track, which will become the newest venue
for national level ATV motocross racing.
Digital Dirt Magazine will be at all of the remaing rounds with even
more updates and complete coverage of pro and amateur action. See
you at Glen Helen!
