brick buildings, tree-lined pavements and eclectic stores create a
sophisticated yet funky vibe. A walking tour will give you a feel for the
area’s rich history.
CLARENDON, ARLINGTON
Arlington may be best known for its famous cemetery, but Clarendon
is where to go for nightlife and eating out. Off beat, and reckoned
to be the hippest of Arlington’s ‘urban villages’, Clarendon is packed
with eclectic restaurants and nightspots, such as the Iota Club &
Café, which has earned great reviews for its food and selection of
Christmas in
hometown and national performing artists. Locals from DC head
National Harbor
out to Clarendon to sample the huge variety of food – from Texan to
T_h ai, Chinese to El Salvadoran. And with ballroom dancing to blues,
there’s no shortage of dance spots either.
MARYLAND
NATIONAL HARBOR
Iota Club & Café,
Clarendon
Just south of Washington, DC on the banks of the Potomac River,
National Harbor is a brand new, 300-acre, mixed-use development
off ering tree-lined promenades that tempt visitors with incredible
dining experiences and more than a million square feet of shopping
along Fashion Boulevard – all based close to the marina. Water taxis
will take you to Old Town Alexandria and onward to Georgetown in
DC, as well as to George Washington’s historic home, Mount Vernon.
Lunch and dinner river cruises leave from the harbour, too.
ANNAPOLIS
Come sail away to Annapolis, home of the US Naval Academy
(which you can visit), standing proudly where the Severn River meets
the mighty Chesapeake Bay. It has more 18th-century buildings
still in use than any other American city. T_h e capital of Maryland,
