Fun at the The Dalmatian Club of Northern California
By Ken Berg, Proctor Dalmatians
The Dalmatian Club of Northern California’s sixty-fourth Specialty was held in Dixon, California on
October 23, 2009. The 55 Dalmatians (82 entries) and their very large group of two-footed
companions were treated to a typical California Fall day – bright sunshine, gentle breezes, and tempera-
tures peaking in the mid 70’s. Exhibitors were treated to club-provided coffee, coffee cake and fruit in
the morning, and cookies and water throughout the day.
Formal activities started at 8:30 am with Mrs. Lora Cox judging an obedience entry of nine. First
Novice B and High in Trail was awarded to Driftwood One Hot Boka CD, RAE, OA, AXJ, OF, CGC, TDi,

tive classes of Veterans ended with Ch SunnyOaks Joy For Sunrunner, owners Karen Rochin and Michele

The health of the Dalmatian has always been a priority for the Dalmatian Club of Northern California.
In keeping with this tradition, a blood draw clinic was held on Friday and Saturday. This blood is for the
AKC Canine Health Foundation Repository program and was funded by the Dalmatian Club of Amer-
ica Foundation. Over 60 Dalmatians each contributed from 5cc to 10cc of blood for the project to
facilitate future research and testing aimed at reducing the incidence of inherited diseases in dogs. This
effort was spear headed by Laurie Isaacson and coordinated by DCA board member Sheila Wymore.
Thirteen of the participating Dalmatians were Normal Uric Acid Dalmatians. In addition, Cardiology
and Cerf clinics were available during the weekend, with Dalmatians being well represented.
