Remembering Samantha....
Am. Can. Ch. Godin's To Be Or Not To Be
(AM CAN CH Alfredrich Here Comes The Sun X Beachcombers The Princess)
Samantha was a Multi Specialty, Group and Best in Show Winner.
She was born in New Brunswick, Canada on March 24, 1986.
One of her fist appearances in the USA was at the Dalmatian Club of
Southern New England Specialty Show May 13, 1988. (Total entry of
116 dogs). She was shown by Bertha Little of Beachcomber Kennels,
NB Canada and went WB and BOW for a 5 point major.
Shortly thereafter she was purchased by Canal-Side (Pauline and
Helene Masachi) of Cape Cod, Massachusetts.
Samantha by far exceeded Pauline & Helene’s goals as she went on to a FABULOUS career.
She won Best of Breed at the Dalmatian Club of America National Specialty Show in 1989 under
Breeder Judge, Mrs. Alan R. Robson, which was one of the largest Nationals ever. As quoted by Mrs.
Robson in her judges comments, “My breed winner made it easy for me. She just asked for it every
moment. She is beautiful, moved tight and was shown to perfection by her amateur-owner”.
Together Samanta & Pauline garnered 8 All Breed Best in Shows, (tied Ch Swabbie of Oz Dal for
most BIS by a bitch after almost 40 yrs), 34 Group 1st, 26 Group 2nd , 19 Group 3rd, and 10 Group
4th , with 134 BOB. She ranked in the Top 20 Non-Sporting and was No.1 Dalmatian in 1991, also
winning Best of Breed at the Westminster the same year. She was No. I Dalmatian Bitch in 1990.
As a Veteran, she won an All-Breed Best Veteran in Show at the West Springfield, Ma. defeating some
of the Top dogs of her time. She is the Dam of many Champions. Her daughter, Ch Canal-Side’s
Samba Sue was a multi-breed and Specialty Winner and also won 2 All-Breed Best Veteran Shows,
following in her mother’s footsteps.
Samantha also produced Ch Canal-Side’s Play it Again Sam, Ch Cal-Side’s To be Sweet, Ch Canal-
Side’s Destined To Be, Alfredrich Stance of Canal-Side. All from the same litter sired by
AmCan Ch. Alfredrich Handsome Tall and Dark.
Her other Champions were Ch Canal-Side’s Beloved
Belinda and Ch Canal-Side’s Boston Whaler.
While she was a wonderful show dog, we loved her
most as a family member. She was so much fun
swimming, playing Frisbee, and hiking along the Cape
Cod Canal.
