comeforBlack Princetotake
awelldeservedretirement.Originally
designedasadualpurposevessel
covering services between the
UK/NorwayandUK/CanaryIslands,
sheunderwentamajorrefitin1987
and emerged as a full time cruise
ship.
Black Prince wasconstructedatthe
Lubecker FlenderWerk shipyard in
Germanyandlaunchedon14thMay
1966byLadyDorisDenny,thewifeof
the Lord Mayor of London. In
continuation of a Fred. Olsen
tradition, a figurehead, crafted by
KjellRasmussen,oftheyoungballet
dancer, Hanne Skram adorned her
bow.
Her maiden cruise was a 13 day
sailingfromLondontotheCanaries
inOctober1966callingatLanzarote,
Tenerife and Gran Canaria. Black
PrinceoccasionallycalledatMadeira
onherreturntotheUK.Pricesforthe
roundtriprangedfrombetween£69
and £150, a not inconsiderable
amountofmoneyforthetime.
From May to October 1967, Black
Prince inaugurated a new
passenger/car ferry route between
