reportwhichsummarizesoneofthemostexcitingyearsinourtradition-richhistory.
Our volleyball, men’s basketball, women’s golf and men’s lacrosse programs all
wonMAACChampionshipsthis past season,highlighting ayear inwhichgreatstrides
weremade.Men’sbasketball againhadahistoricseason, posting aprogram-record
27wins,cappedoffwithavictoryover OhioStateandanear-missagainst topoverall
seed,Louisville,intheNCAATournament. Forvolleyball, itwasarecordfourthstraight
triptotheNCAATournament, whileourmen’slacrosseteammadetheFieldof 16for
thefirsttimeinprogramhistory.
Wesawdramaticimprovementinathleticsuccess across theboard,evidencedby
oursecond-placefinishintheMAACCommissioner’s Cupformen’s sportsandour
fourth-placeoverall finish.
Ourstudent-athletes continuetoexcelintheclassroom.OurmostrecentGraduationSuccess Rate(GSR)of
94%tiedforthesixth-highestrateinthenation.Thirteenofour18programsowncumulativegradepointaverages
over 3.0and90student-athletes(35%ofthoseeligible) werenamedtotheir conferencehonor rolls.
Siena’sathleticachievementsledtogreatnationalexposurefortheCollege,andourstudent-athletescontinued
tomakeheadlineswhileexemplifyingSiena’sfoundingFranciscanvalues.Perhapsthemostbasicandinstrumental
ofthosevaluesis service,whichis central toour mission.
Throughthedepartment’s“Saints intheCommunity”program,our student-athletes onceagainemergedas
leaders androlemodels throughouttheCapital Region. OurcornerstonepartnershipswithRonaldMcDonald
HouseCharitiesandtheAmericanCancerSocietyflourishedthisyear, andstudent-athletes sharedtimewith
localstudentsthroughthepopular Adopt-a-School program.
Despitethechallenging economictimes,our corporatepartners andSaintsAlive! members continuedto
contributeatrecordlevels.Thankstothis support,weareabletoprovideour student-athletes withtheservices
theyneedtocontinuetocompeteatthehighestlevel possible.
