OURMANDATE The Ottawa Chamber of Commerce is an independent and non-partisan, member-driven business organization providing leadership to enhance economic prosperity and quality of life in the Ottawa area.

OUR VISION To be the leading provider of business-to-business networking opportunities in Ottawa; and the foremost and respected voice of business in Ottawa

OURMISSION The Ottawa Chamber of Commerce provides networking, professional and business development opportunities and member benefits and services directly to business. It also provides its members with a united voice of business representation through effective research, consultation and liaison with key decision makers and influencers.

BACKGROUND Since our founding in 1857, we have committed ourselves to promoting and extending Ottawa’s trade and commerce. For over 150 years, the Ottawa Chamber of Commerce has shared Canada’s passage from colony to nationhood and Ottawa’s growth from a lumber town to the country’s number one centre of technological excellence.

The Ottawa Chamber of Commerce (OCC) has always been an active participant in the process of making this region the strong and vibrant city it has become. Some of our accomplishments include:

 Preservation of the Rideau Canal  Founding of the Annual Canadian Tulip Festival, which celebrated 50 colourful years in 2002  Initiated Changing of the Guard ceremonies on Parliament Hill  Played a strong role in the creation of the Sparks Street Mall

 Campaigned for strong education facilities and transpiration links including four-laning of Highway 416 and establishment of the Ottawa International Airport Authority, which rece3ntly completed an exciting $300 million new terminal building

 Played a pivotal role in securing a new one-tier governance structure for the new City of Ottawa

 Helped to broker a funding deal between three levels of government and the private sector, for a much needed expansion of the Ottawa Congress Centre, now to be called the Ottawa Convention centre which will re-open for business in 2011.

Thanks to the strengths and efforts of our members working as a team, the future of Ottawa’s trade and commerce continues to shine. Because we have taken the initiative to improve our educational institutions, transportation infrastructure and quality of life, many companies around the world are looking to Ottawa for their future.

For local, national and international businesses operating in the Ottawa area, we are the “voice of business”.
