Interview
| SUSAN CROPPER
IC: When did you learn to crochet?
SC: Hmmm… probably about four or fi ve years ago
I think.
IC: Who taught you?
SC: Bee Cinch, a woman who teaches at Loop. We
were on the train to France and we thought it
would be fun to do it then. She brought extra
hooks and I brought the yarn. We were on our
way to a design show in Paris. Bee lives in Kent
so within minutes of meeting me on the train in
Ashford, we got out our goodies and began.
IC: Going from knitting to crochet can be a bit of a
challenge for some people. Did you fi nd it easy
to learn?
SC: I think I picked it up pretty quickly. The biggest
(Top left)
challenge for me was how to hold the yarn. I

hand. I have to constantly remind myself to hold

just a matter or remembering, really!

IC: Do you have any plans to write more books?
The choice of yarn

I just love the feel of working with the fi bre.
It’s soft but strong and just wonderful to work
with. I particularly like the weight of the Blue
Sky Alpaca Sport weight and use it over and
over again. And cashmere, of course. I love
cashmere, but it can be a bit expensive. That’s
the good thing about owning a yarn shop: I
get to play around with the stock and
make wonderful things!
IC: The shop seems to be doing
really well. Do you have
any future plans for Loop?
SC: I am working with two
people and we're designing
Loop knitting kits that might
be ready for autumn 2009.
That’s a big endeavour and
very exciting for us.
