Staples launches
eco-friendly range
that saves trees
S
taples has launched an exclusive range of sustainable eco-friendly paper products
that will literally save trees.
The earthy new Bagasse range of notebooks, pads and refill paper is made from a
waste product of the sugar-making process.
Staples Head of Marketing Yetunde Ige said: “By using this leftover by-product we
can have a positive effect on the environment by helping to reduce deforestation and
greenhouse gas production.
“Although this new paper is not made from traditional wood pulp, it still has the
same reliable high quality you would expect from a Staples product.”
Using sugarcane waste (called bagasse) to make paper means fewer trees have to
be cut down. It also promotes a more renewable resource because sugarcane
reaches maturity in just 15-16 months, so it can be quickly regrown when needed -
while trees take at least 10 years to mature.
Sugar producers usually dispose of the left over bagasse by burning it - releasing
CO2 into the environment. When it’s made into paper, no CO2 is released.
The new range of notebooks, filler paper and writing pads is available in store
priced between £2.92 for a pack of two pads to £3.90 for an A4 eco-friendly
notebook.
