The Water Framework Directive
is a European standard stating
that all coastal waters, lakes,
and rivers in European Union
countries must achieve ‘good’
ecological status by
2015.
Good water quality means more recreational water
activities are possible and the diverse wildlife we want
to see throughout Wales will thrive.
As part of our work to implement the Water Framework
Directive (WFD) in Wales, we launched our ‘Living
Waters for Wales’ consultation explaining our plans
to tackle the issues preventing our waterways from
achieving good water quality for each major river basin
in Wales.
