Monitoring Facility which
can be moved to temporary
locations across Wales
in order to assess
air quality.
On reviewing the activities we regulate at Corus
steelworks in Port Talbot, which is the largest single
source of dust emitted in Wales, we identified a number
of actions needed to reduce the impact on the local
environment. The site now has a comprehensive set of
monitors, one of the best systems in the UK, identifying
pollution sources and assessing the effectiveness of
changes to site operations. This helped to improve
the level of fine particulates and Port Talbot met the
European Union air quality standard in 2008.
