The Genius Symbols
Silvia Hartmann £24.95, Dragon Rising Publishing
I love the idea of a new set of simply drawn, neutral, exclamations. These might hypnotise and entrance
basic symbols as keys to access the immense creative a listening audience to “play EVERY TOPIC with
resources of our unconscious minds. Silvia Hartmann’s delight”, but such emphasis does not work so well in
23 symbols include some that represent universal print. A glossary, references to Hartmann’s original
elements of our experience and some that I found sources and influences and a reading list for these
too specific or counter intuitive. I felt that some key would be beneficial. There are strengths to this book:
elements of life, such as science and technology were the section on “Games to Play” offers many creative
missing; however Hartmann recommends making suggestions for working with these symbols. Readers
your own set and suggests that you can add or change who want to have full instructions and well-thought out
symbols to suit. What you do with these symbols, applications would be disappointed. Readers who are
once made, is confused and vague. The book reads prepared to take these creative ideas and fly with them
like transcripts of ‘trances’ from one of the author’s might enjoy making their own set and exploring and
courses and is peppered with frequent suggestions, FAR inventing their own applications.

HUMAN CAPITAL MANAGEMENT -
Achieving Added Value Through People
Angela Baron & Michael Armstrong £25, Kogan Page
In this book, Baron and Armstrong set out to usually reviewed here. However, it is also a very
provide a practical guide to the subject of human practical book, giving advice on the whole journey
capital management (HCM) and show how it can of applying HCM in an organisation - what it is,
deliver extra value to organisations. HCM centres on what it can do for the organisation, what to consider
the collection of data to support how an organisation before measuring data, how to measure data, where
should manage its people. The concept behind to apply HCM, and how to make best use of the
HCM is that people are assets (rather than expenses results. The appendix also contains a wide range of
as they are often regarded) and by investing in them tools that can be used by managers. In summary I
just like they would in new equipment, organisations would say that the authors have achieved their aim
will reap the benefits in improved customer and written a comprehensive guide to human capital
satisfaction, staff performance, and ultimately, management for HR managers and more general
business success. This book gives a thorough senior managers alike, providing a good combination
consideration of the topic, backing it up with plenty of theory, practical guidance, and real-life examples;
of references to other publications and research. As in short, it tells you everything you would want and
a result it leans more towards being an academic need to know about the subject.

Transform the way you live and work: Achieve
your goals: Strategies to transform your life
Andy Smith £6.99, DK Books
This book is really for those who have already decided goals are verbalised and set. It may also be that readers
they want to change and have a positive mindset may benefit from working through some of the issues
in place. Assuming the reader is coming from that in greater depth with a coach to see any significant
perspective, I would suggest it is a book best worked shifts. Having said that - no prior knowledge of NLP is
through with a friend. The tools are such that they necessary to read the book and the book is easy to read
could easily be read superficially, without impact, and really is pocket sized to carry round. This is a useful
if done in isolation. In order to really interact with introduction and guide for someone already in the right
the book, readers need to set aside time and find frame of mind to change and just looking for some
somewhere they can really explore the tools posed guidance on goal setting.
