Diercks', Delirium, won the regatta with a
first and a third place finish. He said, “On
Delirium we had a pretty good start and
were 2nd or 3rd around the first couple of
marks, but by the time we reached the 2nd
windward mark we had dropped to 7th.
We saw wind to the west and our tactical
guesswork paid off.”
The J-80 fleet had three closely
competitive boats with lots of lead
changes. At the close of the regatta, three
boats were tied. Mike Brewer, who brought
his J-80 Swish down from Victoria for the
regatta, said, “Taj Mahal won the start
of the last race and never looked back.
We finished four boat lengths behind.”

Nine Thunderbirds raced, including
Duane Emmott's new varnished
Thunderbaby making her major-regatta
debut. A single point separated each
competitor by the end of the regatta. “A
short line made for a nice tactical challenge
at the starts,” Tim Carey (Invader) said. “We

The modern six meter Finnegan, sailed
by Andy Parker, beat up on the classics.
“The 6 meters are getting ready for Worlds
in Newport in September,” reported Dave
Martin.
In the Performance 30 fleet, Shattered
beat Kowloon by three points for the regatta.
Eric Finn, of Kowloon, commented that
on the first race, “Those who went in got
current relief, but it didn’t compensate
for less wind. Rubicon marched around
us on the outside.”
Brad Butler dusted off Morphine to join
the Moore 24 fleet. Leads changed often
between the top three boats. A tight finish
between Morphine and More Uff Da went
to Morphine’s favor. Morphine and More
Uff Da were tied, but an upward trend
in scores gave More Uff Da the regatta.
