In-depth | NEWBUILDING Höegh gas FPSO on the rise

Höegh LNG has announced its two year project for its LNG floating, production storage and offloading (FPSO) vessel.

W

ith the pre-FEED (front end engineering design) study finished in March 2008 for

a new FPSO, Höegh LNG moved onto the full FEED phase, which was due to be completed at the end of March 2009. Höegh LNG has spent the last 12 months and US$50 million on FEED engineering to develop its own design. CB&I was awarded the FEED contract

for the topside of the vessel, while Daewoo Shipbuilding and Marine Engineering (DSME) was awarded the contract covering the hull and containment systems. The vessel will have the capacity to treat and liquefy a well stream of 2.5 billion m3

per

of LNG per year, with LNG storage capacity being 190,000m3. Te final tonnage is yet to be decided upon and will be defined via the FEED contract. Höegh LNG said it was looking to

with a width of 60m and a draſt of 11.5m. Te LNG capacity will be 1.6 million tonnes

confirm an order for a vessel in the third or fourth quarter of 2009, with a view to taking delivery of the vessel in the third quarter of 2012. Te FPSO is intended to work to access

stranded gas in small and medium-sized fields, in the range of 0.5TCF – 3.0TCF. It will provide an alternative to land-based greenfield LNG-plants and will be competitive both on costs and on construction time, according to Höegh. NA
