+++Regional roundup – Vitalise Sandpipers
++Minibus flies in
A new adapted minibus made a happy landing at Vitalise Sandpipers, thanks to a generous donation by the RAF Benevolent Fund. The Centre took delivery of the state of the art 17-seater minibus at an official ribbon-cutting ceremony attended by Martin Henshaw of the RAF Benevolent Fund and Vitalise Chief Executive Jonathan Powell.
++Happy Birthday!
Vitalise Sandpipers celebrated its 20th anniversary last November. Guest of honour was Nan Scott, Chair of the South Lakes Support Group. Nan helped source the location and original funding for Sandpipers over two decades ago. Visitors to a gala reception enjoyed a buffet, guided tours and music from a string quartet.
++We will rock you
A great time was had by all at the annual celebration of Queen and all things Glam Rock at Vitalise Sandpipers late last year. Four live bands, including QEII, the number one Queen tribute band, kept hands clapping and feet stomping for the whole week. If you want to be part of the next Queen Week at Sandpipers in November 2009, don’t forget to book early.
++Golden parachute
Popular volunteer Doe Keun ‘DK’ Bae left Vitalise Sandpipers with a really unexpected parting gift, when he surprised everyone by making a freefall tandem parachute jump from 10,000 feet, raising over £200 for the Centre. DK left with our best wishes for the future and the parting words ‘Dae dan han doe!’ (‘Excellent, thanks!’).
++Staff excel
Congratulations to Vitalise Sandpipers’ Deputy Manager Katrine Bird, who has completed her Registered Managers Award and to staff members Anita Morley and Heather Aitchison, who completed their NVQ level three and two qualifications respectively in Business and Administration. Well done also to Sharon Bolton, Sean Bradley, Dot Caven, Dorothy Henderson and Glynis Roberts, who completed NVQ level two courses in Cleaning and Support Services.
