TABOO OR FEAR:
WHAT THE CHURCH
IS FAILING TO TEACH
by JERRY L. ROGERS
S
HE WAS A BEAUTIFUL WOMAN. Her love
and dedication to the Lord was unquestioned.
Her husband and children adored her, and so
did a married man in her congregation.
She never knew about the man.
The man, a dedicated Christian and active in the
church, struggled to overcome the thoughts and curiosi-
ties about her that flooded his mind. He knew that if
these thoughts were ever pursued, the fallout from his
indiscretion would be devastating, so in silent suffering,
guilt, and shame he struggled.
Does the previous comment shock you? Do you
question why the outsider of the marriage, as a profess-
ing Christian, would have these thoughts? Well I must
tell you that statistically this man is not alone in deal-
ing with thoughts like this. As Pentecostals, we some-
times have the delusion that since we have the Holy
The
Spirit baptism, we are immune from temptation and
Sanctity
sin. Somewhere in our theology, teaching, or personal
of
studies, we have made some wrong assumptions that
Marriage
are far from biblical. We have become so blinded by
our false sense of infallibility because of our Holy Spirit
experience that we forget even Paul the apostle strug-
gled against the desires of the flesh, even after the out-
pouring of the Holy Spirit!
