Impressions
The M37 “Island Hopper” is the ultimate
cruising cat sailing experience. In the
slightest breath of wind, she slips along to
surpass true wind speed with boat speed.
When the carbon wing mast is rotated,
the difference is palpable. The delicious
economy of hardware and precision
placement of the control lines around the
helm make the boat a wonderfully lazy sail,
where there is plenty to trim and tweak if
desired. The sail wardrobe options of an
additional furlable Code sail, light air upwind
Screecher and downwind asymmetric
spinnaker open up the possibility of fully
maximizing the performance to be had in
the direction of choice. The continuation
of the hard top canopy over the forward
cockpit will make all the difference in the
tropics and offer shelter from the elements
elsewhere.
Under power
Two Lombardini 15hp engines come
as standard. Sited at the foot of the
companionway entrance into each hull,
three quarters aft from bow to stern, the
engines occupy their own compartment.
Packed with 3/4” non-flammable insulation,
they are super quiet. The boat is so light
that ease of handling under power is as
good as it gets for a vessel 39.5 ft in length
overall with a 22 ft beam. When it comes to
docking, it is also possible to push the boat
around by hand.
