LIVING COLOR
Bioluminescent light is not only bright, it’s colorful. Most of the light made by animals is blue or green. These are the colors most animals can see. Some creatures make a different color, though. The railroad worm is a show-off.
It makes more than one light. It has a body with 11 pairs of “tail lamps” that glow green. A light on its head shines red.
This railroad worm lights up green on its sides. Its head can glow red, too.
When threatened, this “burglar-alarm” jelly (left image) sets off a sparkling light display (right image).
