Increase Awareness of the U.S. Metalcasting Industry by

Hosting a Plant Tour Members of Congress are back in their states for the

month of August and then again in October. T is is an ideal time for metalcasters and suppliers across the country to host their representatives and senators for educational tours at their facilities. “Legislators value the opportunity to tour manufacturers

that are making a positive contribution to their states and districts,” said Brad Muller, vice president sales and market- ing, Charlotte Pipe, and Foundry Co. and AFS Government Aff airs chairman. “And for AFS members, plant tours off er an excellent way to connect on a personal level with law- makers and allow them to see fi rsthand the challenges and opportunities facing foundries.” A typical plant tour lasts about an hour, allowing met-

alcasters to cover the metalcasting process and showcase the facility’s investments in energy effi ciency, environmen- tal and safety projects, as well as capital equipment. Key issues to discuss include the impact of OSHA’s fi nal silica rulemaking, EPA’s Clean Power Plan and Ozone rule, as well as tax reform. In a recent example of a metalcasting facility hosting an elected offi cial, U.S. Sen. Debbie Stabenow (D-Michigan) toured Eagle Alloy, Muskegon, Michigan with AFS Presi- dent Jeff Cook, Eagle Alloy Inc. Members interested in arranging a plant tour can contact
