I would tell my 16-year-old self that you need to focus and that life has highs and lows, and at the end of the day everything will be OK. There’s no reason to believe the world is going to end over one putt.”

How can golf do a better job of support- ing women? I think clubs being more inclusive of women can help support women and the game of golf. There is no reason why a woman should be forced to feel unwelcome or intimi- dated because she’s at a golf course. I can’t imagine what it would be like to not feel like I belong somewhere.

What can the NCGA do better to support golf? I haven’t been involved in California golf for a number of years because I moved to Florida, but I

think the NCGA did a wonderful job supporting golf when I was grow- ing up.

In 2000, you won the California Junior Girls’ State Championship at Monterey Peninsula Country Club. How much of a confidence booster was that and what would the 32-year-old Christina Kim tell the 16-year- old Christina Kim that won at MPCC? I won the Cal Junior State Am the same day that I won the Big-I state qualifier to make it to the Nation- als. My dad and I drove 50 minutes

from MPCC to DeLaveaga (in Santa Cruz) and I played 36 holes in one day and won both events. It was great to know I could survive 36 holes in a day and play at my mental peak. I think I would tell my 16-year-old self that you need to focus and that life has highs and lows, and at the end of the day everything will be OK. There’s no reason to believe the world is going to end over one putt.
