Photonics In Focus: the UK
Launching an occasional series, Electro Optics shines its spotlight on the territories that are driving our sector forward. Across the coming months, we will look at different markets and some of the most dynamic companies and organisations operating from them
T
he UK has been through a turbulent patch, but the recent decision to rejoin Horizon Europe, the European Union’s science research scheme, signals just how seriously the
UK Government is now taking the potential of photonics, and science in general, to transform the economy. With Photonex taking place in Glasgow this month, we pick the companies making a splash at this year’s show and showcase some of the new announcements and product releases visitors can expect to see and hear. We also profile some key UK companies driving growth. In our keynote interview, John Lincoln, the man heading up the UK’s Photonics Leadership Group, explains that, while some challenges remain, the outlook is looking bright, with the country still renowned for its ability to innovate. The Electro Optics team is attending this year’s event in Scotland, so we look forward to seeing you at Booth 213 for the launch of the 2024 Photonics100.
