Komodo ASIC
Cepton has released Komodo, a lidar point cloud processor ASIC (application-specific integrated circuit) designed to improve lidar performance and drive down production costs – helping automotive OEMs drive mass- market lidar adoption in future vehicles. Komodo will be integrated into several models of Cepton lidars to significantly improve their point cloud quality. The ASIC is faster and more power-efficient than the FPGA and merchant silicon chips it is designed to replace. Its filtering and noise reduction features deliver more accurate range and reflectivity measurement. With a peak throughput of up to 12,000,000 points per second, it significantly enhances point cloud quality for higher resolution, which offers more detailed information when tracking the size, speed, direction and distance of moving objects. Komodo incorporates a built-in functional
safety monitor that is ISO26262 ASIL-B certified, enhancing its reliability for use in passenger cars. It also has multiple camera interfaces and high-speed data channels, facilitating lidar-camera data fusion and communication with control units.

Triangulation laser distance sensors
Wenglor offers a new P3 series of 32 triangulation laser distance sensors, divided into five measuring ranges for small and large distances – from 30mm to 1,000mm – accurate to a few microns. The sensors are offered in high-quality aluminium housings with built-in ‘TripleA’ technology – Aspheric Dual Lens, Adaptive Auto-Exposure and Active Temperature Control. Aspheric Dual Lens provides two specially shaped aspherical lenses to ensure improved image quality of the laser light spot and thus increased optical precision. Adaptive Auto Exposure enables the

The new models maintain the key advantages of the previous PF32 cameras, namely their ultra-high speed of operation, being able to generate up to 5.12Gbps of photon counting or time-correlated timestamp data with 55ps resolution. This volume of data could, however, surpass

CMOS area image sensor
Designed with a back-illuminated structure and a 1,280 x 1,024 Active Pixel Sensor (APS) matrix, Hamamatsu’s new CMOS area image sensor is ideal for applications not only in the visible spectrum, but also with spectral components in the ultra violet (UV) and near-infrared (NIR). Boasting high-UV sensitivity from 200nm, this non-cooled CMOS area image sensor delivers a spectral response to 1,100nm and is stable in UV light irradiation. Its sensitivity makes it ideal for industrial applications such as the detection of glues or resins in quality control. Due to the electronics integrated within the
sensor, including the built-in timing and bias generators, amplifiers and A/D converters, the output signal is digital (LVDS). Additionally, the S16101 can reach a high reading speed of 146 frames per second due to a reduction in the
exposure time of the CMOS chip to be adjusted automatically. This makes it possible to expose both bright and dark objects, regardless of the material. Active Temperature Control ensures
temperature-stable operation. Several temperature sensors built into the housing continuously measure the internal temperature. The warm-up time of CMOS sensors is significantly shorter compared with other sensors of this type.
