12 4 Flaming June
The month of June is an exciting time for the HPC industry with three major European events all in quick succession. Having just returned from PRACE’s event in Ljubljana, Slovenia, the industry now prepares for Teratec Forum and ISC High Performance – which both take place in the same month. Teratec is the leading HPC event in

France, held on the 19 and 20 June. The event attracts around 1,300 people, aiming to highlight the technological and industrial potential of HPC and the essential role that France plays in this field. The event also includes a wide selection of presentations, tutorials, workshops and an exhibition focusing on HPC and big data simulation. ISC will feature an exhibition of HPC

companies that will be showcasing their latest products and features – but there will also be a full technical programme including, research posters, BOF sessions, tutorials and workshops. On page 6 there are interviews with two of the keynote speakers Maria Girone, CTO of CERN openlab, and Keren Bergman, Charles Batchelor Professor of Electrical Engineering, Columbia University, who discuss complex computing challenges facing CERN and the development of silicon photonics for HPC. On page 4 we explore the role of maintenance in ensuring HPC performance and service availability. This feature looks at the use of predictive and proactive maintenance and how it can be delivered in a variety of ways to suit the needs of different HPC user communities – while on page 16 Sophia Ktori discovers that LIMS and ELN software is used in regulated industries to manage and protect the data that is collected.
