ow, more than ever, taking

charge of your own health is crucial. You are what you eat, drink and think. Big Pharma corporations thrive

on sickness and certain junk food manufacturers include unhealthy ingredients designed for addiction (especially high-fructose sugars and other processed items I cannot pronounce). Just as the Surgeon General has warnings on tobacco and alcohol, I propose adding food and cosmetic warning labels such as CAYOR (Consume At Your Own Risk) to these unhealthy products. Well, that will not happen—so please read the ingredients. Basic rule: “If it’s made in a plant, don’t eat it. If it comes from an organic plant, okay.” Sugary and processed foods are the worst. Keep your immune system strong! Years ago a respected doctor/

friend shared how humor and plenty of sleep are the best natural remedies for a speedy recovery. Of course, to boost immunity, a nutritionally-balanced diet is key, too. During these ongoing “stay-at-

home” orders, many of us have turned to Way-Too-Much Screen Time,

which includes television, Netflix, YouTube, social media, online gaming, etc. Excessive electronic device use will sap your energy. Te team at the Cannizzaro Integrative Pediatric Center shares “Unplugging” advice (p.20-23) with tips for all ages—a must read. Humans do not like to be bored,

and we need some alone-time to boost imagination and creativity. I absolutely love turning off the phones and computer. Getting outside (walking the dog) and making things with my hands (cooking, gardening, knitting, jigsaw puzzles) all bring a joyful calm to my days. What are your hobbies? Check out the article: Finding Calm During Trying Times (p24) for new ideas, too. Finally, since gatherings of groups

are still discouraged in Central FL, this edition excludes our popular calendar section. We do hope you can find special times to get outside for exercise, fresh air and natural Vitamin D (sunshine). And, do not forget: Dancing (and singing) at home brings joy!

To Calmer, Happier Days— Now and Always,

A few funny quotes from our Inbox:

• My Mom always told me I wouldn’t accomplish anything by laying in bed all day, but look at me now— I’m saving the world!

• I now know how dogs often feel: I roam the house looking for food, I’m told “No” if I get too close to strangers, and I get really excited about car rides!

• I swear my fridge just said: “What the hell do you want now?”

• I’m giving up drinking for a month. Oops, punctuation typo….I’m giving up! Drinking for a month.

• If you get an email with the subject “Knock-Knock,” Hmmm? It could be a Jehovah witness working from home.

• I prepared for self-quarantine and bought a jigsaw puzzle to keep my brain working and my fingers nimble. And, I must say, my plan worked. I completed it in just one week and the box said 2-4 years!
