letter from the publisher W
ho wants to be Happy? I do, I do! Tis edition focuses on Happiness! And, hasn’t it been
wonderful to remove our masks and share a warm- felt smile with old and new friends on a daily basis? No doubt—finding happiness has been a challenge this past year. On pages 14-17 our feature offers Seven Ways to Tink Yourself Happy, and it is a known fact that the simple act of smiling can make the brain happy. It doesn’t matter if we smile genuinely or fake
it, the brain does not know the difference! (See page 26 to learn why.) As Henry Ward Beecher wrote “Te art of being happy lies in the
power of extracting happiness from common things.” Last month I bought a single red balloon at the grocery store. Five weeks later it still floats and spins on its ribbon in my office. I’m amazed at how long this “mylar” balloon is lasting—best $4 I’ve spent! Another way I easily find pleasure is visiting a garden center. I am always drawn to red blossoms. Red geraniums are my favorite—
and so easy to grow here. Te color red also attracts pollinators, especially hummingbirds. You will find tips for creating a pollinator-friendly yard on pages 18-19. Watching butterflies brings happiness, too! Finally, one of my favorite monthly tasks is to pick the Cover Art—I
especially like to promote local artists. A friend recommended Johnny Dame, and aſter reviewing his website and Instagram page, it was difficult to pick just one piece. Be sure to read his bio on page 8, and learn where and how he gets his inspiration. His wise words will encourage everyone to celebrate all the beauty around us.
My favorite mantra remains: Feel Good • Live Simply • Laugh More
