STANDARDS WATCH
STANDARDS REPORT By David Richards MSc CEng CEnv FIMechE FSOE
During the last four decades, standards expert David Richards has had active involvement in environmental test standardisation and worked on every issue of the UK Defence Standard 00-035 related to environmental testing. He has also worked on environmental standards for NATO, chaired the European Expert Group recommending environmental requirements for the European Defence Agency and worked on European (CEN) standards.

This report includes new process-related documents covering continual improvement, conformity assessment, risk management and obsolescence management. There is also an update on compliance plans for reliability testing. BS EN ISO 4180 Packaging. Complete, filled transport packages. General rules for the compilation of performance test schedules. This update is commonly used to set testing requirements against transport and storage for packaged equipment. The testing encompassed is impact, low pressure and vibration, whilst climatically conditioned.

BS EN IEC 60904-7 Photovoltaic devices. Computation of the spectral mismatch correction for measurements of photovoltaic devices. This document describes the procedure for correcting the spectral error caused by the mismatch between the test spectrum and the reference spectrum. BS EN 17277 Hydrometry. Measurement requirements and classification of rainfall intensity measuring instruments. This standard defines the procedure and equipment for laboratory and field measurement of liquid atmospheric precipitation. It provides a calibration classification of catching-type instruments based on their laboratory performance.
