Setting new standards in luxury accommodation

Students living in Hox Park enjoy all the creature comforts they have at home, and more

stitch the scheme into its woodland setting. Wooden and concrete benches set into the landscape has an alluring effect on students, whether it be to seek a quiet spot to study outdoors or bask in the sun with friends. Circulation throughout the site is defined

by paving which winds beneath a generous colonnade and an impressive double height portico. Accommodation is accessed from the periphery of each courtyard, through a series of inviting glazed entrances. Designed to make students feel at

home, all rooms are bright and spacious and feature a comfortable double bed, generous storage space including a built in double wardrobe, a desk for study and an en suite with walk in shower and WC. There are 200 studio rooms, equipped

with fully functioning kitchenettes, equipped with a ceramic hob, combi oven and fridge/freezer and a breakfast bar, while 299 en suite bedrooms are orientated in clusters of four to eight rooms around a communal kitchen, dining and living space. Large windows provide an abundance

OCATED on the leafy outskirts of Egham in Surrey, Hox Park is a new high-quality student development for

The Royalton Group and Moorfield which forms part of the phased masterplan for the former Brunel University site. Designed by Studio Partington, a total of 499 studio and en suite bedrooms are housed within low density blocks orientated around a series of landscaped collegiate courtyards, creating a welcoming new home for students from around the world. The high-end development is sited

near Royal Holloway University’s Egham Campus, and aims to set a new standard in student luxury living. RHU is part of London University and has over 9,000 students, many of them from overseas. The scheme consists of four new

accommodation blocks, three to four storeys in height, orientated around a series of beautifully landscaped courtyards which are accessed through a new entrance square. Crisp bronze powder coated aluminium cladding to the top storey of each block reduces the perceived height of the scheme, while subtle detailing around windows cast delicate shadows onto the brickwork, changing the proportions of the openings

as the sunlight changes through the day. The choices of materials - textured brick

and limestone - and massing of the scheme was determined by the relationship with the adjacent Grade II Listed Air Forces memorial and its gardens, alongside the desire to complement the stunning countryside setting. The courtyards range in size and privacy,

each flourishing with wild flower beds and newly planted mature trees which help to

of light, while secure, openable louvres provide natural ventilation. Every room benefits from stunning views of the woodland surroundings, with some even catching glimpses of Windsor Castle between the trees. Steps have been taken to ensure the

scheme is accessible for wheelchair users; a series of spacious ambulant studio flats are situated on the ground floor, with level thresholds throughout. A focus has been placed on health and

wellbeing of the students, not only in the design of the accommodation but the amenities offered. Students have free access to a new, onsite state of the art gym, along with an expansive rugby pitch which is located just a stone’s throw from the accommodation. A refurbished club house, complete with a new café, study hub and gaming room, provides a convenient venue for socialising between studies. From start to finish, Hox Park has taken

two years to construct, and just a few months to assemble with thanks to the adoption of precast offsite construction, completing ahead of the 2018/19 academic year. Studio Partington worked closely with the contractor, GRAHAM, to devise solutions that would increase the overall capacity of the scheme, and significantly
