WG+P design second club for boutique operator

WG+P (Waind Gohil + Potter Architects) have transformed a former storage space to create their second gym for boutique operator Core Collective. The pay as you go site in Knightsbridge,

London offers clients a range of group, instructor led sessions including TRX, HIIT, Power Yoga and Spinning.

The Knightsbridge site offers a yoga and TRX

studio as well as a 1,100sq ft space for high intensity classes. The design developed in collaboration with lighting designer Stileman lighting uses lighting effects with a variety of materials including timber, steel, concrete and brass to enhance the social and workout experience in the gym, which is as much to do with wellbeing as activity. The workout spaces are reflective of current

lifestyle, fitness and nutrition trends giving gym goers a progressive yet relaxed atmosphere with curated and flexible spaces allowing for classes that can easily be tailored according to instructor,

intensity and level. The result is a sociable destination that supports a healthy lifestyle within an inclusive yet bespoke environment. “As millennials socialise at the gym, rather

than at the bar, and exercise is becoming widely understood as routinely necessary to survive the metropolis, fitness spaces are taking on a new social and physical importance contributing to our wellness. This next gym for Core Collective has allowed us to evolve new spaces to support mindfulness during exercise and social interaction before and after,” says Phil Waind, director with Waind Gohil+ Potter.

Summer start for new three-tier stands at Lords Cricket Ground

Construction is due to get underway this summer on two new three-tier stands to replace the existing Compton and Edrich Stands at Lord’s Cricket Ground. The redevelopment of the stands forms the

second phase of the ground’s updated masterplan. The designs by WilkinsonEyre are consistent with the overall architectural identity of Lord’s and the ‘village cricket green’ ethos, whilst working to improve the overall harmony of the north-east end of the ground. The plans include much needed upgraded amenities. There are currently no facilities within the existing stands, with poor sightlines in the lower tiers. The new designs include integrated catering and WC facilities, and vastly improved sightlines for the seats in the lower levels which will substantially improve the spectator experience. The seating capacity of the new stands will

be increased by around 2,500, accommodating 11,500 spectators overall, which will enable Marylebone Cricket Club to better satisfy the demand for tickets from the general public, and there will also be wheelchair-accessible spaces as well as lift access at all levels. Construction is due to commence after the

completion of this summer’s major matches on 24th August 2019. The rapid-build design sequence has been developed to minimise

interruption to match fixtures, with the new stands’ seats due to be ready for use during the 2020 season. Fully fitted-out facilities are

scheduled to be completed for the summer of 2021. The stands are anticipated to cost in the region of £50m.
