EDITOR’S NOTE £100m boost for mental health

This edition begins with exciting news of a £100m investment in new mental health facilities in the North West of England.

Two major projects have received funding as part of new Prime Minister, Boris Johnson’s pledge to invest in frontline NHS services. You can read about these schemes on the news page (p6).

There are also details of the latest projects across the mental health and dementia landscape, including the opening of a sensory room in Kingston, and a modern access control solution installed at a new psychiatric ward in Norfolk.

In our features we explore how the very-latest thinking is helping product manufacturers to design furniture for particularly-challenging areas in mental health units, in this case dining rooms (p14).

And we preview both the 2019 mental health & dementia facilities forum (p21); and the custodial facilities forum (p26).

But we also want you to get involved. In the next edition of mhdf we will be looking at a number of areas in which some of the greatest transformations and improvements are taking place across the mental health sector.

This will include the impact of outdoor spaces and some of the key products that are helping to create safe and therapeutic natural environments for people with mental health conditions and dementia. This will include looking at the design of security fencing ranges and outdoor seating products.

Plus, we will be looking at the impact of virtual reality technology on the design of supportive facilities.

If you can help with these, or have been involved in any mental health or dementia projects, including creating new products that will enhance these environments, please contact jo@healthcaredm.co.uk
