esign in Mental Health is the only UK conference and exhibition focusing solely on the design of


mental health facilities, with a clear focus on creating calm therapeutic environments for the benefit of patients and staff alike. And this year the event is moving


to a new, larger venue in Coventry, where NHS trusts and private healthcare providers will be able meet with the architects, contractors and product developers who design, build, and furnish the facilities they manage every day.


LEARN FROM THE BEST This year’s conference will include keynote speeches from Philip Ross, director of the Design in Mental Health Network; Simon Corben, director and head of profession at NHS


Estates and Facilities, part of NHS Improvement; Susan Grant of NHS National Services Scotland; and Francis Pitts from architecture+. And, just recently announced, is the addition of the Rt Hon Norman Lamb MP to the line-up. A Liberal Democrat MP for North


Norfolk since 2001, he was appointed Minister of State for Care and Support at the Department of Health in September 2012 and served in the position until 2015. As Health Minister, he worked to


reform the care system and led the drive to integrate health and social care, with a greater focus on preventing ill health. He also challenged the NHS to ensure that mental health was treated with the same priority as physical health, including the introduction of

CREAM OF THE CROP And, in the exhibition hall, over 50 companies will be showcasing their latest products and services, with several planning to launch new innovations to visitors. During the event, the winners of the


2019 Design in Mental Health Awards will also be announced. The ceremony will be fronted by GP- turned-comedian, Dr Phil Hammond, and awards will be presented in seven categories: Art Installation of the Year; Project of the Year; Architect of the Year; Service User Engagement; Estates and Facilities Team of the Year; Product Innovation of the Year; and Concept Product Innovation of the Year.
