architects for the project, C4 Projects, in 2015 with a simple requirement for advice regarding glass manifestation. But its involvement increased over
time to include various types of signage and graphics including external signage, glass manifestation, internal signage, wall graphics and murals. When the brief expanded into a full signage requirement, Lustalux manufactured and installed two totem signs together with several free- standing and wall signs. All these were produced in the
distinctive Caudwell purple branding with a butterfly logo providing an eye- catching feature for all approaching the hospital. Internally, the hospital is designed sympathetically and this is reflected in the signage and graphics around the building, with everything designed to provide a calming atmosphere rather than to over stimulate. And images and text are subtle
rather than vibrant to create a peaceful ambience.
One of the finishing touches was
to help create a ‘Thank You Wall’ with brushed steel flat cut letters spelling ‘Thank You’, with each letter containing small hooks. Lustalux then manufactured a number of fret-cut acrylic butterflies to be attached to the hooks with small keyrings. Each butterfly contains the name of someone who has made a valuable contribution to the building and the wellbeing of the hospital.

Sussex home will address shortfall in accommodation
A
new 10-bed dementia unit proposed in Westergate, West Sussex, would help address
a ‘pressing and growing need’ for specialist accommodation in the area, says the applicant. Nyton House Care Home in Nyton Lane, which is based in a grade II listed building sited within 3.5 acres of private gardens, has appled to build the new ward within its grounds. The single-storey building would be set among other residential properties and would be finished in brick and timber with a red zinc roof, according to the planning application. Its design has been informed by the
latest research in dementia care and would include a lounge/dining area and communal garden, as well as the 10 en-suite bedrooms. Harvey Hillary, care home director, said: “The Netherlands and Japan lead the way in dementia care, placing a huge emphasis on how the environment can influence behaviour and wellbeing.
